Fabric Plant Pot | DIY

Hello,

I wanted to share a DIY that I was inspired to do by a photo on Pinterest.

Fabric-wrapped plant pots!

For this DIY you will need:

– Mod Podge (or other matte glue. I use Liquitex Ultra Matte Gel, which is cheaper at Micheals.)

– Brush or sponge

– Scissors

– A ceramic plant pot

– Fabric (a thicker fabric is better)

I bought a nice ikat patterned fabric from HGTV at Jo-Ann Fabric.

1. First, depending on how much fabric you have, cut it into a manageable amount.  Wrap it around the pot to approximate how much you need, but leave a little more than you think you need.

2. Arrange the fabric onto your pot. The edge of the fabric should be slightly slanted diagonally on the pot, so that when you wrap the fabric all around it makes a cone shape.

3. Begin by brushing on a thin layer of gel onto the pot, and press the edge of the fabric (slanted diagonally) onto the gel. Smooth it out.

4. Continue pasting the fabric on the pot. Smooth the fabric as you paste it. Work only about one inch wide of fabric at a time, so that there are no wrinkles.

5. Once you are all almost all the way around (about 2 inches left), STOP. Now you are going to do the lip and bottom of the pot.

6. For the lip, first arrange the fabric in the pot. You should decide how deep you want the fabric to go into the pot, and then cut the fabric in a circle, to that length. I allowed several inches, so that the fabric is visible inside the pot as well.

7. Begin adding gel to the lip of the pot, and about an inch down from the lip. Work in a circle. Smooth the fabric out to avoid wrinkles.

8. Then paste the remaining fabric on the inside of the pot. I also added gel on top of the fabric, to make it very stiff inside of the pot. This way the fabric would not lift up when I planted something.

9. For the bottom of the pot, turn the pot over and cut the fabric where you want it.

10. Then paste the fabric, working in a circle, and smoothing out the fabric, to avoid wrinkles.

11. Now, go back to where you had stopped before. Add gel to the remaining 2 inches, and a bit on top of the neighboring fabric. Press the fabric onto the pot and on top of the other fabric.

12. Smooth out the fabric, so that there are no wrinkles.

13. Smooth out all of the fabric on the pot.

14. Allow about an hour for the gel to dry completely.

15. Plant something cute, and enjoy! 🙂

I planted a cute pineapple plant from Trader Joe’s.
